The Strand on Georgia – 1933
Looking west on Georgia St. towards Seymour shows the Strand Theatre (built as the Allen in 1920) with the Birks building and Vancouver Block behind it. Further west across Granville St. is the older Hotel Vancouver and the βnewβ Hotel Vancouver in the distance. At the time of this view, the new Hotel Vancouver was an empty shell, construction being halted during the Depression and not resuming until the late 1930s in preparation for the Royal Visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1939.
